Mariah Carey in talks to judge American Idol Season 12

When Steven Tyler announced that he would be leaving as judge on "American Idol," People.com has learned that Mariah Carey is in consideration for a judge's seat on the Fox reality show.

According to US Weekly, Mariah Carey is in talks to join the reality show as a judge. "They are in serious talks with Mariah and it's very close to being a done deal," a source told US Weekly.

Meanwhile, the return of Randy Jackson for next season is uncertain. And Jennifer Lopez hinted that it might be time for her to move on from her judging role on the American Idol.

Earlier this week, former "Idol" contestant Adam Lambert was named as a possible judge for the show's 12th season, and he said in a statement to Billboard.com that, "If 'Idol' wants to talk to me about judging, I'd be more than flattered to have that conversation."
