When Andrew De Leon walked out onto the stage for his America's Got Talent audition, his goth appearance--Marilyn Manson-inspired outfit with his leather-strapped get-up, dark eye make-up, long black hair, and blue contact lenses--initially drew smirks from the judges.
But the 19-year-old brought some of the audience to tears and even received a standing ovation from the three judges, namely Howard Stern, Sharon Osbourne, and Howie Mandel, with his rendition of opera classic "O Mio Babbino Caro". For the first time, De Leon performed in front of a large crowd and he did it well. Showcasing his powerful voice, it seemed that the audience was captivated by De Leon--who described himself as a social outcast who have never sung in public before, not even to his parents.
