Brazilian athlete broke his Olympic medal, demands for replacement

Brazilian Felipe Kitadai, who just won the Olympic bronze medal in Judo's 60 kg category on Saturday, accidentally broke his medal when he brought it into the shower with him.

Felipe Kitadai wears his medal everywhere he goes, but when he took it with him to the shower, the Brazilian athlete dropped it while trying to keep it from getting wet.

Kitadai said that the part holding the medal's string broke, and now he can no longer wear it around his neck.

The Brazilian Olympic Committee formally requested a new medal after Kitadai broke his medal. Despite the fact that the International Olympic Committee has no obligation to replace it, the IOC will give him one, according to a report in Globo Esporte.
